School Meals
We are proud to offer our children a daily hot, healthy and nutritious school meal. These are delivered into school each day by the school meal provider Ginga Catering http://schoolmeals.ginga.catering
The menu for a typical day might be as follows:
Roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots and cabbage. For dessert a fruit flap jack. There is also a vegetarian option or a jacket potato with various fillings. We can also cater for any dietary requirements.
The current menu is available to view at the bottom of this page. Meals cost £2.34 per child per day. All pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a school meal each day at no cost to the parent/guardian.
Free School Meals
Families on low incomes may qualify for free school meals for their children.
Taking up the free school meal could save parents approximately £400 per child each year, which is the average amount being spent on packed lunches.
Schools will receive extra funding for each eligible pupil from central government to fund valuable support such as extra learning support.
If you think your children may be entitled then please contact the school administrator for details or check the Lincolnshire County Council website http://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/parents/schools/free-school-meals/
Break time
We know children get hungry and need an energy boost so children may bring a healthy snack to eat at break time.
School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme
North Scarle Primary School are part of the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme. Children aged four to six are entitled to receive a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school day.
Fruit and vegetables are a good source of the nutrients that children need and form part of a healthy, balanced diet. It also provides one of their 5 A DAY portions.
The fruit and vegetables are delivered to schools three times a week to ensure freshness. Depending on the season, there is a choice of:
- bananas
- apples
- pears
- carrots
- tomatoes
- easy-peel citrus fruits, such as satsumas

Fruit is not handed out at lunchtime – this ensures that the fruit and vegetables supplied are not simply replacing the fruit and vegetables that might have been eaten at lunchtime anyway.
Milk
Free milk is provided daily to all under fives from Cool Milk, the UK’s leading school milk supplier. Each child starting in Reception is automatically registered with Cool Milk by the school. This entitlement comes to an end on the Friday before the child's fifth birthday. They can, however, continue to receive school milk at a subsidised rate paid by the parents.
Cool Milk will contact parents directly prior to the child's fifth birthday, giving parents the opportunity to ensure your child doesn't miss out on the great benefits that school milk provides.
Parents can choose to opt-out should you not wish your child to receive milk whilst at North Scarle Primary School.
